2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe · High-voltage battery
High-voltage battery internal failure and fire risk
Certain Wrangler 4xe battery packs may fail internally and cause a fire while parked or driving, sometimes without warning.
What the reviewed source says
Start with the documented condition, not a parts guess.
FCA recall 68C covers certain 2020 to 2025 Wrangler 4xe vehicles. Cells in the high-voltage pack may have separator damage which, with other cell interactions, can lead to a fire. The current dealer remedy became available for Wrangler vehicles in December 2025. Vehicles previously repaired under recalls 23V-787 or 24V-720 still need the 68C procedure.

Symptoms in the pattern
- The recall condition can occur with the ignition on or off
- The official defect filing states that there may be no warning
- Smoke, heat or a burning smell near the vehicle requires an emergency response
Vehicles and scope
- Certain 2020 to 2025 Jeep Wrangler plug-in hybrid vehicles
- Wrangler 4xe only, not non-hybrid Wrangler models
- Recall applicability must be confirmed by VIN

What the official procedure directs
FCA advises owners not to recharge and to park away from structures or other vehicles until the remedy is obtained. Dealers perform the 68C battery analysis, update battery-control software and replace the high-voltage pack if the prescribed analysis requires it.
Recall 25V-741 is based on the high-voltage battery cell population and production dates, not mileage.

Wrangler 4xe high-voltage battery analysis and remedy
The dealer first runs the 68C battery analysis and updates the BPCM when directed. A second analysis determines whether the pack must be replaced.
Repair paths and safe checks
Separate the diagnosis from the action.
Complete recall 68C battery analysis
A Jeep dealer runs the 68C high-voltage battery analysis and updates the Battery Pack Control Module when needed. A repeat analysis determines whether the battery pack requires replacement.
A completed 23V-787 or 24V-720 repair does not remove the need for 68C on an included VIN.

Read the method beside the problem
These guides explain the safety and evidence checks that apply to this problem file.
Check recalls by VIN
A VIN search checks the displayed NHTSA records for an unrepaired safety recall associated with one vehicle. A model search shows only the wider campaign population.
Read guide ↗When a car is unsafe
A warning light does not always mean the same thing, but weak brakes or smoke leave little room for experimentation. Damaged tires and certain recall instructions can do the same.
Read guide ↗Why symptoms overlap
“It makes a weird noise” is useful human language. Diagnosis begins when that language is tied to the exact vehicle and its operating conditions.
